Heart Disease

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the UK and covers a range of conditions including cardiovascular disease, hypertension (elevated blood pressure), angina, strokes, atherosclerosis.

Common contributing factors are:

  • Being overweight/obese
  • Lack of exercise
  • High saturated/animal fat intake
  • High sugar diet, low in fibre
  • Smoking
  • High alcohol intake
  • Stress

With the introduction of gentle exercise and lifestyle changes, along with alterations to your diet, the risk of heart disease can be substantially reduced. For those already suffering with the above conditions, then these changes can also reduce and slow the progression of the disease.

NB: If you have a history of heart problems or are heavily overweight or obese you should consult your GP before beginning any exercise programme.
