We are all aware that our diet has a huge influence on all aspects of our health and wellbeing, and research has found that a low-carb diet can significantly improve rates of IVF conception.
According to a study, undertaken by gynaecologist Jeffrey Russell, MD, eggs and embryos do not thrive in a high-glucose environment.
The study of 120 women aged 36 and 37 found that there were significant differences in IVF response, with blastocyst development much higher in those with an average diet of 25% protein compared to those eating less than 25% protein. Clinical pregnancy rates and live birth rates were also greatly improved.
Combining a protein intake of over 25% along with a reduced carbohydrate intake of less than 40% showed the rate of clinical pregnancy rising to 80%.
